چکیده
As an alternative to the conventional method, which length measurement is performed as a function of the wavelength of a monochromatic laser source, we proposed the method of measuring arbitrary and absolute length using the pulse repetition interval of a femtosecond optical frequency comb (FOFC the national standard tool for measuring length in Japan). A helium-neon laser evaluation system was developed for distance determination comparison experiment and its uncertainty estimation was performed in order to validate the proposed method.

Interferometric measurement of distance using a femtosecond frequency comb is demonstrated and compared with a counting interferometer displacement measurement. A numerical model of pulse propagation in air is developed and the results are compared with experimental data for short distances. The relative agreement for distance measurement in known laboratory conditions is better than 10(-7). Ac...

A novel method for the measurement of chromatic dispersion of an optical fiber based on wavelength-to-time mapping using a femtosecond pulse laser (FSPL) and an optical comb filter is proposed and experimentally evaluated. In the proposed approach, the spectrum of an ultrashort optical pulse generated by an FSPL is sliced by an optical comb filter. The spectrum-sliced optical pulse is then coup...
متن کاملHigh-precision wavelength calibration of astronomical spectrographs with laser frequency combs
We describe a possible new technique for precise wavelength calibration of high-resolution astronomical spectrographs using femtosecond-pulsed mode-locked lasers controlled by stable oscillators such as atomic clocks. Such ‘frequency combs’ provide a series of narrow modes which are uniformly spaced according to the laser’s pulse repetition rate and whose absolute frequencies are known a priori...
متن کاملAccuracy comparison of absolute optical frequency measurement between harmonic-generation synthesis and a frequency-division femtosecond comb
Using an iodine-stabilized He-Ne laser as a transfer oscillator, we compare absolute measurements of the optical frequency from a traditional frequency synthesis chain based on harmonic generation and from the frequency division technique of an ultrawide bandwidth femtosecond frequency comb. The agreement between these two measurements, both linked to the Cs standard, is 220+/-770 Hz, yielding ...
